I live in Oakland and the neighborhood I live in is the Oak Tree neighborhood. I would describe my neighborhood pretty safe but there were a few incidents that happened there because my dad’s car got got robbed twice, *three times now 10.21.16 Attempted robbery once again* there and my aunt was robbed there. I would describe myself pretty smart and into technology (video games and computers). I would describe myself as a good, obedient son. Some of my assigned identities are that I’m a male, I was born in Oakland, and I am Mexican/ Latino. Some of my chosen identities is that i choose to pay attention to those such as teachers and parents, I am into video games, actually try to learn, and am into technology.
The first image i showed in order to show a dominant narrative about myself is an image of a tweet of Donald Trump’s that says, “The protesters in New Mexico were thugs who were flying the Mexican flag. The rally inside was big and beautiful, but outside, criminals!” This is a dominant narrative because he didn’t know that if the people he was talking about were actually criminals or not. The second image which I showed to show a dominant narrative about myself is a cartoon that shows that the US is a country full of immigrants. This is a dominant narrative because they have not met any of the immigrants and actually heard of how they actually are.The final image which I sh owed in order to show a dominant narrative about myself is an image of a vandalized sign that says, “Welcome to Oakland”. This is a dominant narrative because this is showing that Oakland is a dangerous place and should not be visited.

What I did in order to decorate the inside was making it red so it kind of looked flashy. The first image that i used in the interior of my shadowbox is a picture of 3 “monsters” with “Dead By Daylight” in the picture. This is a video game which I enjoy to play. Another image which i used in the interior of my toolbox is an image of a zombie. I chose this image because it is part of a game that I play when I’m bored. The third image that I chose is an image of a man holding a an old gun which looks like it was used in world war 1. I used this image because it is part of a game named “battlefield 1” which I look up to play. The fourth and fifth image I used were a logo of microsoft and xbox. I used these images because I have a microsoft pc which i use to play game and an xbox to play games also.
In conclusion, people see me as someone who is doesn’t talk much, uneducated, or a criminal. If people really knew me then they would know that I’m a “gamer” who isn’t very athletic, but pretty smart also. Telling the story of who I really am is important because I do not want to be seen as something else when I know that I am a certain way. What I learned in this unit is that people should speak out in order to not be oppressed by others trying to tell their story which is incorrect.
